Weekly Update: November 17-24, 2014

Dear Family and Friends,
This has been quite an interesting week. Like most weeks it had its ups and its downs, but it ended on a high note which is great. On Monday we spent most of the day doing service for non-members in Okotoks as a zone. We helped them move. It was a lot of fun and a great way to start the week. Wednesday during we lunch we had a surprise birthday party for one of my zone leaders and another elder in the zone, so we made a cool cake for that then played pin the tie on the missionary. Then we went down town street contacting. At one point Sister Howard and both talked to people at the same time who were walking past us and had two different converstations. My conversation didn't last very long, but hers did. I would have felt weird to just go join her conversation, so I left her to talk to the man on her on and continuted trying to talk to other people on the street within sight and sound of Sister Howard. Sister Howard ended up giving this man a BOM after finding out his whole life story. I was so proud of her, and she was so excited that she was able to that. It boosted her confidence and gave her the fire to talk to every one else we did that day. I love seeing her grow and take those steps. Its awesome!

Wednesday night was the beggining of the down side of my week. I felt sick when we got home and ended up going to bed. The next day I was sick the whole day and we couldn't do anything. Sister Howard kept getting hopeful that I would be better and we could go out and teach, but it didn't happen that day. I got a priesthood blessing from the zone leaders which was just what I needed. By the next day I was feeling almost completely better, I was just exhausted a lot still. By Saturday I was back to good health again.Friday night to Saturday afternoon we went on exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders. I went with Sister Harris (my trainer) to the ysa ward and Sister Hassan went with Sister Howard in our ward. On exchanges we were able to see lots of miracles and set up appointments with less-actives they have been trying to contact. During our companion study we were able to see how eachother has grown and changed. I'm so grateful I had to opportunity to go on exchanges with my trainer, it almost felt like we never stopped being each other's companion.

Saturday evening after exchanges we had two dinners. The second dinner was with Bro. Schindler. As we taught him about hope afterwards we were able to make a break thru and figure out what is holding him back. On Sunday we found out about a new potential investigator who is friends with a member and wants to be baptized. She is chinese so she might be taught by the Mandarin Elders, or us, whichever she prefers, but she will probably come to our ward. Also on Sunday Bernard was able to get confirmed and met with the bishop. From what Brother Mitchell our ward mission leader said, Bernard will be getting the priesthood this upcoming week. And that would be the end of a crazy week, but I have learned a lot. I love being a missionary and helping others use the atonement to change and come unto Christ. Every little step forward that those we teach make, brings happiness to me. I know this church is true and that the atonement is real.
I just want to share a scripture that I have definitely learned to be true on my mission. It is Isaiah 55:8-9:
8 ¶For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith theLord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God does know better than us. We must put him first in our lives then everything else will work out perfectly. God sees our true potential and if we allow him into our lives and follow his counsel we can reach that. I know I've been talking a lot putting God first and truly coming unto him, but that seems to be all that I learn about in my study, even when I don't plan to study that topic. It just happens that way. I hope you take time to ponder where God is on your priorities and make an effort to put him first. I know God loves us so much. We are his children and everything he does is out of pure love for each of us. I love this gospel. Have a great day!

Love Sister Barton
